Have had 5* service from UBB for all of the couple of years. ... I've been dealing with them. The absolute best option if you aren't able to connect to fiber. ... Customer service is unparalleled in a world where ISPs are notorious for their terrible service. Speeds are consistent and even during peak times I've had limited issues. For gamers this is sufficient for all but the most demanding FPS games. Install was easy and efficient, all issues have been quickly resolved.

FAQ's

Frequently asked questions about our 4G broadband.

Our home / urban 4G broadband plans are for Urban areas only. Our plans are perfect for cities, and smaller townships. Addresses outside of townships / cities are required to get our rural 4G broadband. If you're in doubt about what your address can get, call our team on 0800 000 945, they can confirm for you.

Your data will run at full speed until you hit your data cap, after which your connection will continue to run at a maximum of up to 1.2 Mbps until the end of the month at no extra charge. If you require more data, then call UBB; we can add additional data packs for a fee.You can also upgrade your plan (if a higher plan is available at your address), which will take effect in the following month.

Data-capped plans will warn you when you are approaching your data cap. The unlimited data plans cannot have additional data packs permanently added; if you need more full-speed data, please contact us to discuss a different plan.

This is a best-efforts residential service and is not to be used for business or re-sale. Factors such as the performance of your modem, the distance you are from a cell tower, the network capability, the overall use of that cell tower by other customers, the performance and age of the devices you are using, and your in-home WiFi setup can impact the speeds experienced.

The modem is not to be moved from your physical address.

It can take up to 3 hours for your data to renew, from midnight on the 1st of every month. This is due to our system processing having to process a large number of connections.

If you opt to go with UBB's contract terms and get a free wireless modem, then UBB's minimum contract length is 24 months. If you need to close the account within the contract period, then there is an early termination fee of $30 for every month remaining in your contract. The modem is required to be returned at your cost. If this is not returned in a reasonable amount of time, then you will be charged $325 for the cost of the modem. Finally, if you have a radio installed to get a 4G signal, a $100 removal fee plus travel applies. More information can be found here. T&C's

Fast enough to stream Netflix, Sky TV, and the cricket on TVNZ on demand! Usually, speeds are around 27 Mbps, with some connections being able to reach much faster speeds. So, in short much faster the adsl connections with the old phone line copper. Please note that broadband speed can be affected by your device's capabilities and connection type. We cannot guarantee speeds over Wi-Fi. Where possible, plug an Ethernet cable into the 4G modem for a fast and reliable 4G broadband connection. If you’re wanting a super-fast connection, both download and upload, then take a look at our fibre broadband plans here.

4G broadband is great! especially if you are close to the signal tower, meaning that you only need to use a modem to get a good connection. If you’re not, then an antenna is needed to get a good connection. Because the coverage around New Zealand is so vast, there is generally more coverage than with the likes of wireless broadband & fibre broadband. On average, 4G speeds are roughly up to 30 mbps, but on a good connection, don’t be surprised to see it go faster!

Factors such as the performance of your modem, the distance you are from a cell tower, the network capability, the overall use of that cell tower by other customers, the performance and age of the devices you are using, and your in-home WiFi setup can impact the speeds experienced. Contact UBB on 0800 000 945, and our team can troubleshoot exactly what is causing a slow connection. We can also help with our wifi extending solutions.

Most streaming services require between 5 and 15 Mbps to stream in 4K and 1080p. Our 4G broadband plans can easily enable you to stream your heart's content online!

Wireless broadband and WiFi are similar, but not the same. Wireless broadband is how broadband is delivered to your property. Which is wirelessly via radio signals. Instead of the traditional way of bringing fibre to the house or the old copper phone lines. WiFi signals are sent directly from your router at home. It requires the wireless broadband to be delivered to the router for the wifi to work. Read more about our wireless broadband here.

Unfortunetley No, connections are fixed to one address. You can unplug the modem and move it around your address, but using a connection that is not listed with us is breaking the terms and conditions of this service. If you require the connection elsewhere, for example, by going to the holiday home or moving addresses, then let us know! Our team can help and update our system to ensure it works. Please note that sometimes services will not work the same due to network congestion on the mobile towers, coverage, and other factors.

Nope! Fibre is far superior to 4G broadband. We always recommend our fibre broadband plans where it is possible! Due to the nature of fast download and upload speeds with fibre broadband, we always opt for this solution first. But fibre is not available everywhere, sadly! That's where our 4G plans or our rural wireless broadband in Canterbury fits in. Both services are very capable for streaming, gaming, and video calls! Can't get fibre? Well, our parent company, The Connectivity Group, can help you look at solutions where you can!

The place to position the UBB 4G modem is in a central location in the building where it can see most of the house. It's also helpful to ensure the modem is facing or near the mobile signal tower it gets the broadband from. Please be aware that WiFi is like sound. It doesn't travel through walls that well, especially concrete or metal walls. If you have a larger house, then please have a look at our WiFi-extending options. here. The team will help you plan the perfect wifi-extending solution!

If you're on a data-capped plan (300GB or 600GB) and you go over your monthly data, then not to worry! Your broadband connection doesn't stop working. All that happens is that your speed slows down to 1.2 Mbps. If you require to get back up to full speed data asap, Call in to UBB, and we can add additional data packs at a cost. Our prices for the data packs are:

  1. 10GB - $15
  2. 50GB - $40
  3. 100GB - $80

Data packs that have been purchased do not carry over to the next month.

We support all forms of webmail through our broadband plans. Including Xtra webmail and Farmside webmail. Unfortunately, we have stopped offering our webmail services. More information can be found here about webmail settings and details: Webmail details.. UBB recomends using gmail or the live.com services. They are free and preform really well!
