Absolutely fantastic company that genuinely cares about its customers. ... We are on a remote high country station and had a weather related outage. The service team went above and beyond to get up to us as soon as possible. Really impressed with their communication and efforts. Keep up the awesome work and many thanks from Erewhon.

FAQ's

Frequently asked questions about our fibre internet.

Fibre broadband nz is the way of the future. Fibre is not about getting the fastest download speeds to one device but ensuring multiple devices around the house have equally fast speeds! Fibre enables the ultimate online experience! From gaming, watching HD / 4k videos, streaming music, and a whole lot more!

Really fast! Ultrafast fibre internet uses light to send and receive internet data, so essentially the speed light sort of fast! To get the best results use an ethernet cable to plug your devices directly to the modem. This will help achieve maximum speeds. Please note broadband speed vary pending on the server your connected to and the device capability.

Yes, you can! For a home phone landline to work with our internet connection it requires to be over the internet (VoIP). Slightly different, instead of plugging your phone into the jack point it requires to be plugged into the UBB modem. They cost $20 extra per month, more info about them can be found here: VoIP phone line.

Your phone over internet will not work when there is a power outage in your area. Your able to call 111 on your mobile, if not we have a redundant plan to help, more info can be found here: Vulnerable Consumer 111 Form.

Firstly, you will need a fibre-ready router, UBB offers a free router on lease when you go with a 12-month fibre internet contract. You may be able to use your existing modem it may need setting changes for it to work. Please note our UBB team cannot help with modems that are not supplied by us as we are only trained with UBB products. Settings for 3rd party routers can be found here: Router Guides. If fibre is already installed well that's it!

If you have security alarms or camera's they should continue to work over fibre. For your medical alarm we recommend checking in with the provider to ensure it can continue to work just fine before connecting with fibre.

We offer fibre services through local company's including: Chorus, EA Networks, and Enable throughout the South Island. Easiest way to answer the questison "Can I get fibre broadband nz" is to go to the enable website if you live in Christchurch. Or the EA networks page if you live in central Canterbury. And Chorus if you live anywhere else in the South Island. EA - Mid Canterbury, Enable - Christchurch, Chorus - South Island. Or just give us a call on 0800 000 945!

Most of the time installs are free, due to the roll out to ensure NZ fibre network is explanded fully. Enable, Chorus and EA Networks will install fibre at residential addresses within their coverage area for free until certain dates that are set out by the wholse comapany, if the installation requirements fall within our standard Residential Installation Offer (further details below). For some homes that were added to our coverage area in 2017 or later, the offer applies until 31 December 2025. T check out more on the Enable website here: or the :Chorus website here and the EA Networks website here. Watch the video on the Chosrus website, it explains the process really well and is the standard across all fibre providers NZ.

As found in the NZ Telecommunications Forum INC (TCF), it explains the five steps to installing fibre at home. As part of the connection process you will need to consider which installation options best suit the home you live in. Rights of access may need to be considered if you live down a right of way, on a shared driveway or an apartment. If you rent, be aware that only the property owner can give permission to have fibre installed. There are five steps to install fibre at home: 1.Choose a Broadband Service Provider, 2.Gain authorisation 3.Pre-installation appointment, 4.Build, 5.Connection. Have a look at the video below found from the Chorus website explaing their process for installing a SDU (Single Dwelling Unit).

As found on the Chorus website 5G is the next upgrade in mobile technology, it is very fast but only over short distances and capacity is shared with other users in the area. A fibre connection is dedicated to your home and the capacity is always available to you and you alone.

ADSL / VDSL use the old copper phone lines to provide internet data to and from your house or business. It is an older technolagy using eltric signals passed on a copper line. Its gernally alot slower than fibre which uses the light signals to pass internet data. So what travels faster than light? Not internet data signals on a copper line thats for sure! In short ADSL and VDSL is an older tech, fibre is the future!

All of our broadband services are on a 12-month contract. We require 30 days notice to be given to disconnect. If you were to disconnect within the contract period there is early termination fee's. A $100 disconnection fee applies plus you are charged the cost of the base rate for each remaining months left within the contract. For more information please read our term's and conditions.

UBB aka Ultiamte Broadband, we provide internet to urban and rural areas of NZ. We are a fibre broadband provider in nz as well! we like to think we are the fastest broadband provider out there! But not only do we provide fast fibre broadband, but also we have other connection types like 4G broadband options and rural wireless broadband options!

You should notice a difference, because your fibre connection is probably five or six times as faster than your ADSL or 4G connection. A few things drive the need for fast internet. Today, the main one is usually a need to stream movies on Netflix, or Spark Sports, or simliar sites in good quality without lots of annoying buffering. It’s almost essential if you want to watch 4K or ultra high definition (UHD) video instead of HD (720p) or Full HD (1080p). Families also need faster internet speeds when they are competing for bandwidth (Check out what bandwidth is by clicking here). These days it’s quite common to have multiple people streaming different movies, TV programmes, watching YouTube videos, streaming sport and playing games all at the same time whilst at home. Gamers usually prefer fibre internet connection because they are more responsive: there’s less latency or lagging. People who work from home definitely benefit from having responsive, fibre internet. Apart from the advantages of much faster upload speeds, (it's handy when you are sending files back to the office). The connections are more consistent and more reliable than ADSL or 4G RBI. It’s very frustrating if your broadband connection drops just when you absolutely need it to work.
