To get started all you need to do is call UBB on its contact number 0800 000 945 or email support@ubb.nz, they will walk you through the process of either getting fibre installed /connected at your office or advise if your in our rural wireless broadband coverage. Its really that simple!

Home broadband connections are often cheaper than business broadband deals, so you may be tempted to get a cheaper line installed instead of a dedicated service. Although it is possible to use residential broadband for business use, if there is a fault on your line which isn’t fixed for several days you may lose revenue, especially if the fault would be fixed within a few hours with a business connection. Our rural wireless plans are the same for both home or business.

Yes! UBB can offer a back-up 4G Broadband solution or a back-up fibre connection. Fibre connections use Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) which are able to hold more than 1 connection on them. So if your business requires an uptime of 100% inquire about our alternate redundant broadband options.

If you are running a business or working from home, you may be using your home broadband connection to get on the internet. Business plans are often more reliable and may offer more security if internet access is critical to your business. Business broadband providers offer a suite of extra add-ons with business internet deals like static IP addresses and agreed service-level fault fixes, which comes at a higher price. but lowers your business risk and increases your business productivity!

Business plans have more features and benefits than residential, and is worth the higher cost. Residential internet often has a restricted download / upload speed and comes with only best-effort service agreements, while business internet demands faster download / upload speeds in order to perform operations. In addition, internet service providers provide guaranteed service and uptime for business internet.

If you run a small / medium business, these are some key things to consider when choosing business broadband:

  • Level of support: Business-grade broadband services are usually more expensive because they include things like greater levels of support – both during and outside normal office hours. They may also include guaranteed fix times, as well as more consistent speed where business traffic gets priority at peak times.
  • Do a data audit: work out how much data your business uses and what sort of data it uses (Video, email etc), this will give you a benchmark to use to ensure the broadband service had the right capacity for you
  • Think about add-ons you need: This could be add-on phone lines, voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, custom voip solutions, wifi extending, static ip addresses. You could streamline your business even more by bundling your broadband and power, so you just have one provider and one invoice to deal with.

A fibre maybe scope is required (though Enable, Chorus or EA) to confirm upfront installation costs. Usually Fibre installs are free, but dependant on what is required there maybe charges. Talk to our team to get a scope organized for you.

A static IP address for a business is an internet address that does not change. A static IP address, like a physical mail box street address, can tell other computers or servers on the internet where a particular machine is situated or connected to the internet. Sadly, the basic routers sent out from broadband providers do not cover all office layouts. WiFi doesn't like to go through walls.
